India Photography Showcase

This picture is taken from a showcase / blof post – Indian Photography by Peter Olexa founder of Cruzine magazine.

Excerpt from the blog:

Once known to be a cradle of the civilization, India still remains a notable player in the world economic, political, and cultural life. This country once gave people buttons and pajamas, dental drill and corrosion-resistant iron, optic fiber and USB, chess and dice, shampoo and swimming pool… The list of Indian discoveries and inventions really impresses, and many of the things, commonly associated today with the Western style of life, actually originated from India.

Today, India is a highly diverse county, where the beauty and luxury of the temples neighbor with extreme poverty and sufferings, where tremendous cultural heritage interlaces with the lack and inaccessibility of children education. Like its ancient gods, India always had many faces. The borderless diversity of this country is perfectly illustrated in this India photography showcase Cruzine has prepared for you.

The Bombay Train Song by John Matthews

He hangs on dangling handholds
As the train sways and careens
Endless nondescript buildings unfold
Their secrets as the tired warrior returns.

The day is over the night falls
Thickly through the barricaded windows
The man’s sleepy head lolls
On his shoulder in a dream disturbed.

The days are a hard white collar brawl
The sleepless night stretches ahead
There’s no space for a fly to crawl
The morning paper is still unread.

You who sleep standing
Don’t drool on his shirt
It will cost him a lot of spending
If you pour on him all your dirt.

Plastic bags, umbrellas, Tiffin
The rack is full and the seats overflow
What is that smell Peter Griffin?
Is it the Sewri sewers overflowing?

Beware of pickers of pockets
Who surround and slash with knife
Careful of your arm’s sockets
Lest they dislocate and misery make life.

Welcome to Bombay’s bustling trains
Hold on fast as if you are insane!

Palitana is a city in Bhavnagar district, Gujarat, India. It is located 50 km southwest of Bhavnagar city and is a major pilgrimage centre for Jains.

The Palitana temples are considered the most sacred pilgrimage place (tirtha) by the Jain community, and is the world’s largest Temple Complex. There are more than 3000 temples located on the Shatrunjaya hills, exquisitely carved in marble. The main temple on top of the hill, is dedicated to 1st tirthankar lord Adinath (Rishabdeva). On the top the Shatrunjai Hill is a cluster of Jain temples, built by generations of Jains over a period of 900 years, from the 11th century onwards. The temples are managed by the Anandji Kalyanji Trust of the Kasturbai Lalbhai group. From the foot of the hill to the top there are 3,800 and odd stone steps cut to facilitate climbing.

One of the popular version I grew up playing on the Mumbai Streets was Gully Cricket.

About Gully Cricket

In India and Pakistan, there is Gali cricket (‘gali’ in Hindi means ‘street’. It is pronounced as ‘gully’ but should not be confused with the fielding position). Often, there are no teams, and each player plays for himself, and fields when he is not batting. Often, there is one wicket, and one bowling position, and no overs. If the batsman runs an odd number of runs, he is allowed to walk back to the wicket before the next ball is bowled.

About Mumbai Dabawalla’s
A dabbawala (Marathi: डबेवाला); also spelled as dabbawalla or dabbawallah; literally meaning (“box person”), is a person in India, most commonly found in the city of Mumbai, who is employed in a unique service industry whose primary business is collecting the freshly cooked food in lunch boxes from the residences of the office workers (mostly in the suburbs), delivering it to their respective workplaces and returning the empty boxes back to the customer’s residence by using various modes of transport. “Tiffin” is an old-fashioned English word for a light lunch or afternoon snack, and sometimes for the box it is carried in. For this reason, the dabbawalas are sometimes called Tiffin Wallahs.

Currently Working as an Assistant under Hari Mahidhar Photography. Assisted at various Industrial Shoots like Larsen & Toubro, Bayer Cropscience etc. Photography has been in my blood right from my great grandfather to my grandfather to my dad.As a child, I always wanted to learn to use the SLR. I went through a lot to prove why I deserved a DSLR. I believe, It takes A LOT to get a Perfect picture. Something more than just that one click. My photography is all about emotions. I see things in a different way and My Images are my expressions. It doesn’t matter if someone hates my picture because I clicked that picture just for myself.
In near future, I wish to be known for my Images.
